What is GRACE16?

GRACE16 is a Global Research on Augmented Collaborative Economy, designed to explore the way different Coops would interact within an Augmented Collaborative Economy. The findings of the study will be presented on 11-13 October 2016, at the 3rd International Summit of Cooperatives in Quebec.

Our goals are to advance the management practice of Coops across industries, through practical and actionable insights and by better understanding the evolving role of Collaborative Economy within the Coop sector, while we explore topics including digitalisation, system dynamics, ecosystem economics and platform based business modelling.

What has inspired us

Since July 2014, we embarked on a major international research effort, to better understand how Cooperative and Popular banks work, explore opportunities, address weaknesses and threats and overall to assess the efficacy and resilience of their current business model in a fast changing world. For that purpose we conducted an International SWOT Assessment survey (ISWOT14) in Fall 2014, and hosted a two-day International Strategic Dialogue on Value Innovation (ISDVI15) amongst 12 senior executives, members and strategic partners from 7 counties, in February 2015.

Through our international research (ISWOT14 and ISDVI15) we envisioned a novel superior Coop business model that compels Coops to foster innovation, intelligence and a new form of Collaborative Commerce better suited for the “age of information”. Within this Collaborative Ecosystem, all players (customers, members, partners and banks) are empowered to interact, co-develop and co-deliver novel or complementary superior value-added services and make better use of time and resources. This is what we call Augmented Collaborative Economy and as we define it, represents a new way of thinking about Cooperativism, value generation, market creation, market development and interactions within the Coop community.

Having the “The Power to Act” as our research base, GRACE16 aims at achieving five major objectives: a) assess the efficacy of our novel model and identify the “core” of Augmented Collaborative Economy (ACE), b) capture the systemic nature of the way different Coops can work together in an Augmented Ecosystem, c) provide a set of practical and actionable insights to help managers create and capture new markets and discover new sources of profitability, within ACE, d) identify what is needed to enable Coops to be empowered by ACE in the digital age and e) assess the cross-sector challenges when it comes to collaboration and interaction with the platform (novel model) and under the ACE lens of analysis.

Who is invited?

We're inviting leaders, researchers, thinkers and practitioners, across all sectors and within the Coop community to assess the cross-sector challenges and explore the way different Coops can work together in an Augmented Collaborative Economy.

By participating in GRACE16 you will help us find that voice and identify that narrative. To be able to achieve our goal we need a significant number of responses belonging to the greater Coop sector.

What is expected from me?

If you wish to participate in GRACE16 you will be asked to complete an on-line questionnaire, consisting of several questions related to digitalisation, system dynamics and platform based business modelling.

You will need 5-10 minutes to complete the on-line questionnaire, depending on how much time you have available and how much information you wish to share. Participation is voluntary and it is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. You do not have to provide any names or any other personal information.

If you do decide to take part, please print this information sheet for your records. You will also be asked to agree with the terms of a consent form (section 10), provided with a copy of this.
