CIBP LINK: The Next Best Offer!

The 11th CIBP LINK participants opened their cycle last Wednesday 7 June in Montabaur, Germany, at the Academy of German Cooperatives with a great ice breaker: Action cooking.

Bonding as from this first experience, the 13 participants com

ing from Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Morocco shared their cooperative banking business model with various speakers and facilitators during the 4 days training for executive managers coming from CIBP members institutions and partners.

Everyone agreed: the cooperative bank business model is under pressure and should focus more on a “blended cooperation“ to face the challenges of today’s banking industry:

At DZ BANK AG, Mr Frank Sperling, Head of Correspondent Banking Emerging Markets, enhanced the central Banks’ strategy by acting locally and expanding globally:

  • consolidate their market position with clear innovation activities within its cooperative financial network

  • accelerate the correspondent banking essential change, driven by client demand for greater efficiency, speed and transparency, requiring a far more collective and collaborative transformation

Mr Mario Künzl, National Association of German Cooperative Banks, BVR, guided the audience in a discussion on the key challenges and responses from the cooperative sector.

Next to a stable outlook with AA ratings, the resilient German cooperative banking sector should require more fundamental changes to the sector's strengths and weaknesses: pressure on interest margins from sustained low interest rates, regulatory pressure, non-banking competitors.

In a nutshell, the Fintech explosion, the customer experience musts, the need for future of “smart” collaboration between banks in areas such as liquidity and compliance due to the changing nature of regulation and technology will force the business banking model to “modernise”.

By really getting involved, cooperative banks will provide an enriched service to their customers: faster payments, more predictability and transparency as part of the initiative to adopt new technology innovations.

Last but not least, as per tradition, every CIBP LINK cycle gathers the previous and the new groups of the popular and cooperative bank managers at the occasion of the Innovation Lab project presentation day.

Our 10th cycle participants made a clear statement: the current mega trends pick up from the cooperative idea and we must be number One!

They introduced great cooperation project ideas keeping of course the cooperative values and the member at the central focus and providing at the same time to CIBP members great business opportunities to jointly come up with their Next Best Offer!
