CIBP Congress on proximity, sustainability and innovation in Rome 2018

After the Congress in Rio de Janeiro the next CIBP Congress will take place next year in Italy, from 18 to 19 October.

During the CIBP Executive Committee meeting in Vienna on July 27th, CIBP President Giovanni De Censi referred to the importance for Popular and Cooperative Banks to defend and reaffirm the strength of their business model in boosting the performance of SMEs and communities. To underline this important topic, the next CIBP congress in Rome will focus on the role of proximity banks in collaborative commons.

How a cooperative banking group managed to come within five years from more than 60 independent regional banks to a strong financial group with finally 9 banks servicing members and clients in the nine federal states of Austria, presented Gerald Fleischmann, Chairman of Volksbank Vienna.

As CIBP was invited to present its research on the future of cooperative and popular banks during the Congress of the World Council of Credit Union (WOCCU) which took place in Vienna from 24 to 26 July in the Austria Center, CIBP Secretary General Andrea Karner welcomed WOCCU President Brian Branch among the participants. Mr. Branch gave an overview of his organization and addressed to threats and challenges of credit unions in the digital world. He thanked CIBP for the active contribution in the WOCCU Congress 2017 and Mr. Fleischmann for hosting 80 Congress participants in Volksbank Vienna where they have got an overview on the Austrian banking and the cooperative movement as well.

Mr. Marco De Almada, CEO of the Brazilian bank Bancoob, showed the results of the digital plan put in action in 2017 stimulated by the CIBP research on Collaborative Economy as well as the networking possibilities with CIBP members. He expressed the fully support of his organization to future CIBP activities.

How “Financial Inclusion” in France will work with the support of the Federation of French Savings Banks in a collaborative network presented Ms. Perrine Lantoine, CSR Project Manager of Fédération Nationale des Caisses d’Epargne (FNCE, France).

The institutional part of the meeting was dedicated to the future strategy of the association and the General Assembly who elected the following new members in the Executive Committee: Heribert Donnerbauer (Volksbank Vienna), Ricardo Simone Pereira (Bancoob Brazil), Isabelle Garon (Desjardins Group, Canada) and Wolfgang Köhler (DZ Bank, Germany). Mrs. Garon and Mr. Köhler were also welcomed as new members of the Presidential Committee.

As new member of the Audit Committee, Mr. Robert Makowitz (öGV) was elected.
